This is one of Uganda’s oldest colonial towns. It is decorated by over 70 crater lakes and arguably Uganda’s most beautiful town. Fort portal is the only town in Uganda with an English name, after the British Consul General of Zanzibar sir Gerald portal, who came to Uganda in 1890s.

Attractions include;

  • Tooro Kingdom palace (restored by the Libyan government following its destruction in the 1960s when kingdoms were abolished in Uganda by the Obote government).
  • Sir Gerald portal’s statue
  • Karambi tombs (burial grounds of Omukama Kasagama & Rukidi lll)
  • Home to three national parks (Semiliki, Queen Elizabeth, Kibaale national park)
  • Tooro golf course and botanical gardens Tea plantations
