Entebbe is located on the Lake Victoria peninsula and was at one time the seat of government of the protectorate of Uganda, prior to independence in 1962. If was also the country’s first capital. It is home to Entebbe international airport which was first opened in 1929. It was also from this airport that Queen Elizabeth ll departed Africa to return to England in 1952 when she learned of her father’s death and that she had become Queen.

Attractions include;

  • The national botanical gardens laid out in 1898
  • Uganda virus research institute.
  • Uganda wildlife education center which serves as a national zoo.
  • Statehouse (official residence of the president of Uganda).
  • The historical site in Kigungu where the first catholic missionaries Brother Amans and Father Mon Maple Lourdel landed to establish the catholic faith in Uganda.
  • The oldest golf course in East Africa established in 1900.
